Ranged Combat Steps
Step 1: Build Your Attack Pool
-
Choose the weapon and ammo you want to use, and note their DV and AP.
-
Choose the fire mode you want to use this turn.
-
Add your Agility to your dice pool.
-
Add the correct weapon skill to your dice pool: Archery, Automatics, Exotic Ranged, Heavy, Longarms, Pistols, or Throwing.
-
Add any laser sight or Smartlink bonus to your pool.
-
Subtract any Wound Modifier from your pool.
Step 2: Apply Recoil
7. Subtract the Recoil Compensation from the number of rounds fired this phase, then subtract 1 — the result is your recoil modifier.
8. If the weapon is a heavy weapon, double the recoil modifier.
9. If the weapon is a shotgun and the fire mode is BF (burst fire) or FA (full auto), double the recoil modifier.
10. If your recoil modifier is greater than zero, subtract it from your pool.
Step 3: Roll & Resolve
11. Roll your attack pool and count your hits.
12. If your fire mode is one of the wide bursts (BF/Wide or FA/Wide), tell the gamemaster — the defender loses their defense pool this attack.
13. The defender rolls their defense pool and subtracts their hits from your hits:
-
Net Hits ≤ 0 → Attack fails, no damage.
-
Net Hits > 0 → Proceed to damage calculation.
Step 4: Calculate Modified DV
14. Add your net hits to your weapon + ammo DV — this is your modified DV.
-
If this modified DV is greater than the defender’s armor (modified by weapon AP), it causes Physical damage.
-
Otherwise, it causes Stun damage.
-
If your fire mode is one of the narrow bursts (BF/Narrow or FA/Narrow), add one less than the number of rounds in the burst to your modified DV.
-
Tell the gamemaster your final modified DV. The defender will attempt to resist the damage.
Quick Reference Table
| Step | Action | Pool / Calc |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Build attack pool | Agility + Weapon Skill + Smartlink/Laser – Wounds |
| 2 | Apply recoil | − Recoil Modifier (calc by rounds & recoil comp) |
| 3 | Roll & compare | Your hits – Defender’s hits = Net hits |
| 4 | Damage calc | Modified DV = Weapon + Ammo DV + Net hits (+ burst bonus) |
| 5 | Report | Tell GM final DV; defender resists |
